 His Eminence , Sheikh Ahmad Badr Al-Din Hassoun, the grand Mufti of Syria. Head of the Supreme Council of Fatwa .

 was born in Aleppo in 1949 , son of Muhammad Adib hassoun , a great Muslim scholar and educator .

Education:

 He graduated from a religious secondary school "shariaat" in 1967.      He received his BA and MA in Arabic literature and Islamic studies from Azhar University in Egypt.

He received his P.H.D with excellent degree in Islamic studies about a book entitled "The Mother" by grand scholar of Islam Al-Imam Alshafyee, in ten volumes, 4500 pages in addition to ten books.

Religious and Academic activities:

He has been invited to so many Arab , European and American countries to participate in different international conferences and meetings lecturing, preaching and calling for Universal Spiritual values as well as for constructive dialogues between religions and civilizations – call for  religious and  universal humanity.

Throughout his meetings with different men of religion Islam, Christian or Jewish as well as other religions, he always focused on the bases of the universality of the Islamic relations in all doctrines and sectors always strengthening the relationship under the shadow of Universality and humanity. According to his Eminence, The Holy Quran affirms this religious unity and the common prophetic brotherhood of the messengers and condemns their segregation.

He has collection of books and encyclopedias in Islam issues and a book known as "Morals of Fatwa". His books under publication are entitled as "The Factors of Victory and Retreat" and "The Interpretation of Surat – Al- Tawba".

His audio– video works, CD, cassettes, television meeting and the dialogues including teaching, preaching and lecturing. 

He has visited many Arab countries like Lebanon , Saudi Arabia , Qatar , morocco , UAE , Egypt , Kuwait , Libya and Oman as well as several European countries as Austria , UK , Canada , USA , Iran , Serelanka, Turkey , France , Greece , India , Kenya , Italy , Russia , Armenia and Norway .

Positions held:

-         Teacher and professor in schools and universities in Syria.

-         Preacher and scholar in different mosques in Aleppo and recently in Al-Rawda Mosque.

-         Member of the Syrian parliament for two periods (1990- 1994) (1994-1998).

-         Second Mufti of Aleppo.

-         The First Mufti of Aleppo.

-         Member of the Supreme Council of Fatwa, in Syria.

-         In 2005 was elected Grand Mufti of Syria and head of the Supreme Council of Fatwa.

-         Member of the universal council to approach the Islamic doctrines.

His Eminence still lectures regularly at Al-Rawda Mosque where thousands of male and female Muslims and non Muslims attend his lectures which appears regularly on his web site (www.drhassoun.com) with translation into English.
